A Critics Thought...
MT's Rating of Brothers : Must SEE!
"Brothers" tells the powerful story of two siblings, thirty-something Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) and younger brother Tommy Cahill (Jake Gyllenhaal), who are polar opposites. A Marine about to embark on his fourth tour of duty, Sam is a steadfast family man married to his high school sweetheart, the aptly named Grace (Natalie Portman), with whom he has two young daughters. Tommy, his charismatic younger brother, is a drifter just out of jail who’s always gotten by on wit and charm. When his Black Hawk helicopter is shot down in the mountains Sam is presumed dead and the Cahill family suddenly faces a shocking void. Tommy tries to fill in for his brother by assuming newfound responsibility for himself, Grace, and the children. In the grief and strangeness of their new lives, Grace and Tommy are naturally drawn together. Their longstanding frostiness dissolves, but both are frightened and ashamed of the mutual attraction that has replaced it.
Speechless... was the only word that could come to mind after seeing this film. Toby McGuire did an exceptional job in this movie, so much so that we can see Nominations in the future for his breathtaking role. At first we did not know if we could even rate this movie, it was way to hard to put into words how this film moved us. It was emotional, romantic, thrilling, suspenseful, breathtaking, and many more adjectives that we can not even begin to imagine. This film will give the viewer a brand new respect for our amazing men and women who are currently serving in the active line of duty, and especially for those who are or have been captured by enemies of war. MovieTradition decided to rate this film a "MUST SEE FILM". If you have a chance to go out and see this film please DO. It will completely give you an outlook of what our men and women take the risk of going through everyday. This movie in MT's opinion is a MUST SEE and definitely worth more than the $10 ticket.
