A Critics Thought on Inglorious Bastards...

“Inglorious Basterds” begins in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus(Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as “The Basterds,” Raine’s squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich.

Inglorious this movie truly was. With a comedic take on World War II’s fight against the Nazi Regime Brad Pit and his fellow co-stars did a pretty good job at messing history up. Although this movie is based off of a true story (pretty much just the fact that there ‘was’ a Nazi War) there were many fictional details added that made it far from historically correct. MovieTradition was looking forward to this movie for its history, not the gutless gore and sorry plot line. Although this movie did go off line from history MovieTradition will give it a 7 out of 10 for its silly and humorous antics and somewhat interesting plot line. Two big negatives that MovieTradition would like to warn you on is the length (almost three hours long) and the gut wrenching gore. There is not a lot of gore, but when there is it’s pretty graphic so beware. Team MT recommends this movie for any WWII Veteran that would like to see a movie based on what he wishes he could have been allowed to do back in the day... because trust me half of this movie never happened. Other than that mainly Brad Pitt fans and anyone that is interested in seeing a few men get scalped, a man get beat to death with a baseball bat, and a few other things that we will not get into. Honestly only go see this movie if your up for the challenge... because truthfully we really weren’t.
