A Critics Thought...
MT's Rating of 2012 : 8.5 out of 10
Disaster movie maven Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) crafts this apocalyptic sci-fi thriller following the prophecy stated by the ancient Mayan calendar, which says that the world will come to an end on December 21, 2012. When a global cataclysm thrusts the world into chaos, divorced writer and father Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) joins the race to ensure that humankind is not completely wiped out. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Danny Glover, Amanda Peet, Thandie Newton, and Oliver Platt round out the cast of this end-of-the-world thriller co-scripted by the director and his 10,000 B.C. writer/composer, Harald Kloser.
Thought Provoking.... that is the words that MovieTradition thinks of after watching 2012. This movie was extremely well put together from the amazing acting of John Cusack, Woody Harrelson, Thandle Newton and the rest of the cast to the EXTREMELY BRILLIANT GRAPHICS this movie is definitely on top of MovieTraditions MUST SEE lists. At the beginning of this movie the viewer is taken on the journey of discovering the 'problem' our world will soon encounter. We travel this road through the eyes of the US government and a few other countries. After seeing a similar opening as "The Day after Tomorrow" the viewer is introduced to Jackson Curtis and his children.. from this point on the movie is nothing less than an action packed ride you will never forget. MovieTradition gives "2012" an 8.5 out of 10. The reason we could not give it a perfect 10 was due to the slow start. We will admit that the first 30/45 minutes of this film was pretty tough to get into, but once the action began the movie took the viewer on the ride of their lives. Another thing that we would like to bring to light is the fact that there are parts in the movie that seem a little "too good to be true". For instance, upon just figuring everything out Jackson grabs his kids, ex - wife and her new husband throws them into a limo and rushes through a city that is literaly falling apart. We heard a few people in the theater making remarks like, "Ohh that never would have happened!" and here is what we have to say to that... of course it would have never happened... but that's the point of the movie. Yes this movie is unrealistic at points, but people it is suppose to be. MovieTradition recommends this movie for anyone who found "The Day after Tomorrow" (TDaT) to be interesting, and if you haven't seen TDaT we will still recommend it for anyone who is up for an action packed emotional/inspirational ride. This movie is definitely well worth the money - It is a MovieTradition MUST SEE!
